Hale O' Waikoloa (House of Waikoloa) is in a quiet neighborhood of Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii. Waikoloa Village is a small community of houses, condos and townhouses situated at the one thousand foot elevation, high above the luxury resort hotels which spread along the shoreline six miles below.
This 2,000 square feet vacation house is built of solid cedar "timbers" which are 4" thick, and the entire interior and exterior are clear-stained to highlight the beauty of the color and pattern of the wood. Central Air Conditioning keeps this three bedrooms, 2.5 bath home. Two bedrooms have queen beds, and one which has two twin beds; a room adjacent to the kitchen has a daybed and can serve as a fourth bedroom. In addition to the master bathroom, there are a full bathroom and a half-bathroom. The open beam design and fifteen-foot living room ceiling provide an expansive and airy effect. There are many windows oriented to the northwest for views of the ocean and the Kohala mountain.

The furniture is mainly Scandinavian and the many paintings and art objects are primarily from Asia and Europe; of note are a porcelain figurine of a ballet dancer from Moscow, Russia, and an intricate horse-drawn carriage figurine from Vienna, Austria.
The 400 square feet covered lanai opens to views of the ocean and the beautiful Kohala mountain. Views of sunsets from this vantage point are truly enchanting and magical!
Some of the best beaches in Hawaii are a short drive away, such as Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea Beach and Anaehoomalu Bay (A-Bay); beach supplies like hats, towels, chairs, sunscreen, boogie boards, coolers, etc. are stored in a hall closet, and available for use by guests.
Waikoloa Village has an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed golf course, where guests receive a discounted green fee. Other top-notch golf courses at most of the resort hotels are a short 10 miles away.

A shopping center in Waikoloa Village has a full-service market, bank, gas station, restaurants, medical office, and a variety of shops.
Hale O' Waikoloa is ideally located to serve as your home base to visit the many beaches and natural wonders on the Big Island, including Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea Observatory.

Nearby Activities in Waikoloa

When you rent a beach house or condo in Waikoloa, located on the west side of Hawaii's Big Island, you can enjoy tropical weather year-round and there will always be plenty of ways to explore the area. The best time of year to book an oceanfront home is from late May to early October, particularly for warm weather activities. Waikoloa is primarily a resort destination but has one fun fact that makes it genuinely Hawaiian; the village was built on top of a lava field! A towering volcano sits just 30 miles from the village, called Mauna Kea. While the volcano is currently dormant, its eruptions created a path to the ocean.

Things To Do in Waikoloa

Most Fun Things to Do in Waikoloa: Visit the Unique 49 Black Sand Beach - Unlike many other beaches in the area, 49 Black Sand Beach is true to its name with black sand covering its shores, a result of fine grains of lava. This provides a stark contrast to the clear blue water. When the ocean is calm, go snorkeling and take a look at tropical fish, tidepools, and underwater rock formations. "Vacation for art, relaxing, rejuvenation, and quality girl time!
Spent a week at Hale O' Waikoloa relaxing and enjoying each other's company. We were 3, so had plenty of room to spread out in the house.
The master bedroom has a sliding door that opens to the deck with a lovely view of the mountains and ocean. The master bath has 2 sinks, a great bathtub, but the shower head wasn't at all comfortable (stinging and no way to lower the pressure...)
The kitchen was pretty well stocked with utensils and appliances, though there were some items that should be always be available; coffee filters for the coffee maker, a vegetable peeler that works... we understand not having plastic wrap for food, but there were no items for covering food to store in the fridge or on the counter-there was a real need for smaller bowls and smaller plates. There were several plates that were usable but were cracked and need to be replaced.
We took advantage of the beach towels and chairs; that was very helpful to have on hand!
Great location, quiet neighborhood, close to the well stocked store, and other amenities.
We enjoyed a dinner at Pueo's Osteria- you may want to make reservations- it was busy even on a Monday evening!
All in all we really enjoyed the property; it was clean and well maintained inside; I would be hesitant to bring small children due to the many art objects in every room! Mahalo!"

"George Family March 14-25
It is a nice place in a great location. We have stayed there once before a couple years ago. We enjoy it. The things I would change (fix) are: 1. The sheets need replaced. They are the same ones from last time and the fitted sheets in the master don't stay. They are too stretched out. I can't speak for the other beds, but I am sure they are in the same boat. The pillows should probably be replaced as well. There's not much to them anymore 2. More shower towels. I am ok with limiting what you provide in regards to toilet paper, laundry detergent, and things of that nature, but shower towels should not have to be brought from home. If it sleeps 6, then have towels for 6. 3. I had to go buy batteries for the thermostat. The batteries were dead. That can be checked regularly. All in all a great time and nice house."

"Fantastic Property with Great open floorpan!
This was the perfect house for us older siblings as we enjoyed the open floor plan and having special time together cooking, eating, and laughing together for two weeks! House was in a quiet neighborhood and we enjoyed opening the front door and going for walks each morning! Great location for visiting beaches (our favorite was Hapuna!), with a large supermarket a few minutes away, while being about to tour easily over to Hilo, Kona, and the Volcanoes National Park. The management staff was terrific and kept in touch with us along the entire time from booking to the end of our vacation, with all details on accessing the property, house details, and reminder details on leaving the property.
WE LOVED THIS HOME and the great service provided! MAHALO! "

"Lovely home in Waikoloa Village
We very much enjoyed staying in this home! The views were beautiful and the house was very clean and well stocked with all the kitchen and laundry supplies needed! It is in a really convenient location, only 15 minuets from the beach, and very close to the road to Mauna Kea and Hilo. The rental company was very friendly and quick to respond to any questions we had during our stay! I highly recommend staying here! "

"Confernce/family vacation
We received the door code the day we were checking in. No problems getting into the home. AC was off when we entered. I turned it on and it did not take very long for the house to cool down. There are basketball hoops right next door. The beds were comfortable. The house was clean. Washer and dryer worked great for our needs. Neighborhood was quiet and peaceful."

"Enjoyable home
Comfortable home and well equipped kitchen with unexpected rice cooker. Set up for two people to work online. AC was great. Good central private location for exploring the west side without the crowds of condos. Village shopping very convenient. Knutson property manager was very helpful and responsive."

"Good spacious vacation house for the family
We were family of five with two teenage daughters really enjoyed our stay in this spacious vacation home. It was as advertised with all the needed amenities. Only gripe we have is that over grow vegetation blocking the sunset from the deck. Overall we had a wonderful time. "

"Great space!
Our party of 6 turned out to be a party of 4 but the space was perfect for us. Had a lot of supplies included just in case we had forgotten any and it was very clean. It really was easy to make it home for the week we were there. Instructions were clear and rules were very fair.

I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit the big island! "

"Good Stay for a Group
My 5 friends and I stayed at the Cedar House during our weeklong vacation while we were in town for a wedding — and we had a wonderful time! The house is nestled in a neighborhood right next to a park with perfect sunset views of the surrounding mountains and horizon.

The house has an open setup and is perfect for 6 people. There’s lots of living space and bathrooms, plus the lanai is heaven - especially for enjoying breakfast in the morning. The area is very peaceful with lots of birds, lizards, and amazing greenery that make it feel like a true getaway!

Most of our time was spent in the open kitchen, gathered around the big island where we cooked our meals and had great talks.

Nearby is a gas station and grocery store in case you need to pick anything up before exploring the island. There are lots of beaches within 20-30 minutes and Kona is a 40-minute drive away (which is worth it to check out some great food spots).

Of course there’s always some things you wish you had while on vacation, but it doesn’t mean it diminished our experience. Luckily the guests before us left behind extra garbage bags and cooking spices, but it would be nice to be provided with basic essentials like paper towels or toilet paper. You really do need to take the trash out nightly because cockroaches will appear. This is not the fault of the homeowners, just the nature of the climate.

We had lots of beach supplies provided (snorkels, towels, boogie board) but the listing said there would be a cooler for us to use and there was none to be found. When I messaged the owners via the AirBnb app, they never replied so we ended up having to buy one.

Overall we had a great experience. This was an amazing house with lots of room, charm, and many great memories were made! I would definitely recommend this spot for a group coming into town for an event who wants a home base to cook good food and chill out. "

"Wonderful Holiday House
The house was perfect for the five of us. We loved being in the neighborhood of Waikoloa Village. Grocery store was handy as well as restaurants. The drive to local beaches was only about 15 minutes. We also loved the location to other small towns nearby.
The property manager was very responsive to any needs or questions we had. Since our stay was long, they sent housekeeping in halfway through and that was very nice."

"Wonderful spot for Big Island experience.
We were able to check out so many spots on the island from the house. Even when raining we spent time outside on the lanai. Experienced no problems with this rental and were very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

"Five Stars from Friends and Family
We booked this house to share with a succession of family and friends. Every one loved the art filled house and found it to be very comfortable with a master suite at one end and a “guest wing” at the other. We enjoyed many meals in the large open kitchen/living room/dining room as well as morning coffee and sunset cocktails on the lanai. The neighborhood is very quiet and many of us were greeted by friendly neighbors as we enjoyed walks and runs. It was easy to make day trips to farmers markets, shops and restaurants in Waimea, Kailua Kona and Hilo. We visited several historic sites including Volcano National Park and swam and snorkeled at some of the best beaches on the island. The management company always responded promptly and made us feel very comfortable throughout our stay. "

"Wedding vacation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hale o Waikoloa. This property fit the 6 adults in our party perfectly. We enjoyed the ease of access to many parts of the island as well as the privacy that the property provided.
I would happily stay here again. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to explore Waikoloa Village."
