"Charming and unique
The treehouse was very comfortable and clean. There were lots of personal touches that make this place very unique and interesting. Situated in a densely wooded area, there is only one neighboring property visible so we felt we had great privacy. If you are coming in after sunset, be sure to follow their directions and have a flashlight you can shine on the mailboxes for the house numbers."

"50 stars! So incredible.
Well managed native forest. Rare. Love the wild visitors too. The spectacular house was designed and executed to bring the view indoors. What a treat. Two floors allow for space to enjoy tranquility. Will be a stop with each visit. Thank you owners for sharing. Do bring your own salt & pepper, spices, though. "

"So cool!
The Maile Treehouse was so awesome. It's about 10 minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park- which is why we stayed there, and you really do feel like you're staying in a treehouse. We stayed in early June, and do wish that there was some sort of ceiling fan, as the air could get a little stagnant, and your only option to get a breeze is to open the windows and deal with the bugs. That being said, it was still amazing and really had soooo much character!"

"Wonderful House
The house is beautiful. Surrounded by trees in the rainforest, you can listen to the rain falling all night. 10 min away from the entrance to Volcano National Park! Clean and well stocked. "

"Clean, unique and so close to the National Park
Loved this unique place - clean and spacious. Very reasonable rate too. The tropical rainforest feel and emersion in nature made our trip to the National Park even more memorable. Having the upstairs and downstairs units worked well for our family of 4 with our sons getting their own space together. Mahalo!"

"A magic tree house like no other
What a magical place to stay with the beautiful deck overlooking a lush tropical garden with whimsical creatures to discover. The gentle morning rain created a secluded feel. The home with all its windows and fireplace brings the outside in. Deep jetted tub takes away the aches of a busy day. Kitchen has lots of pots and pans and dishes for guests who like to cook. I will remember this home in my dreams and hope to return one day. Also very responsive and prompt attention from the management company! "

"Wonderful!!!
This property met and exceeded our expectations! It was so clean, beautiful, unique, and comfortable. It was a wonderful location right next to Volcano National Park, and beautiful trees and plants from every window. It was so quiet and relaxing to stay here. We felt like we were in paradise.

The management company was so helpful, friendly and responsive to our needs and questions. I would (and have already) recommended this place to our friends and family. We LOVED this property and hope to return soon!"

"Wonderful stay!
I would highly recommend this lovely property to anyone wanting to explore the Volcanoes area and park. Well stocked and very clean. We felt so welcome with all of the attention to detail. The grounds are well tended and very quaint with all of the cute creature details. Thank you for a wonderful stay! "

"Great stay in the treehouse!
Beautiful well decorated and well stocked house only 2 miles from VCNP. Loved our stay, really cool being in the woods for a different change of scenery. Was easy to find despite some other posts saying little harder. Road outside the home needs replacing, but once in the home everything is great! Great communication from the management company, super easy to work with?"

"Best on the Island!
My Husband and I rented the treehouse to travel with another couple. Could not have been more perfect. 2 separate sleeping quarters and bathrooms. Plenty of open space with the lanai to relax and enjoy each others company. "
Feb 04, 2024 - Julie A., Windsor , CO

"Quiet and Relaxing
Great place to stay when planning a visit to the Volcano national park. The Tree House provided us (two couples) with comfortable accommodations and cooking facilities which we used during our stay. There are a couple of restaurants close by Kilauea Lodge and Ohelo Café which we enjoyed during our stay. Finally if we are in the area would stay at this location again.

"A beautifully appointed home in a magical setting
Maile Treehouse was an ideal place for two couples to stay when visiting Big Island for the first time. Having coffee on the lanai in the mornings afforded us wonderful views of birds in the area. The grounds provided a magical and tranquil setting in which to relax. The home itself was beautifully designed and decorated. It was equipped with every convenience one could imagine... including a bidet in the bathroom. We wished we could have stayed longer and would definitely visit again. Highly recommend this place."

"A true treehouse
A very restorative and serene place. We loved the secluded woods. The only human sounds were the infrequent cars on the road at the end of the drive. Beautifully and thoughtfully equipped. We plan to return. It is very close to the national park, but the ambiance is lush forest, not volcanic scenery. Loved it."
Oct 10, 2023 - , Montgomery , AL

"Amazing retreat
This house is quite a gem! While we had previously been suggested to stay in a local bed and breakfast, we are so happy we chose to stay here. Two lanai for eating meals on, private rainforest views, fully stocked kitchen and full sized washer and dryer were all things we appreciated. We were also impressed that the owners included a 3" binder of rules and house workings, emergency preparedness l, and detailed information on attractions around the entire island. It was incredibly thoughtful!"

"A hidden gem
What a nice tree house! Beautifully equipped, even whirlpool and big veranda. We loved every minute! Also great restaurants nearby and host left a binder wirh a lot of tipps where to go and what to do. It was SO nice!"

"Serene Treehouse
What a lovely property. This was the perfect accommodation to spend a couple days in Volcano and exploring Volcanoes National Park. The treehouse was absolutely adorable and so peaceful. You are serenaded with the most beautiful sounds of the forest that engulf this charming home. I loved the shower that made you feel like you were taking a shower outside with the gorgeous volcanic water washing over you and hearing the birds and frogs chirping away. If only every shower could be so refreshing. We were not prepared to not have screens on any of the windows and quickly learned that to keep the property cooler and bug free during our stay in August, we made sure to get back to property before dark to open up the windows and get cooler air in before darkness came and quickly shut all the windows otherwise the bugs and mosquitoes will rule the roost! Not a fan of waking up with bug bites all over. But once we learned this trick we couldn’t have been happier. "

"Beautiful home in lovely rainforest setting
The house is very beautifully done up. Extremely clean. Beautiful rain forest setting. Wonderful balcony to enjoy the view, birds and the rain. Loved the house. "

"Honeymoon Hideout in Volcano
I've never stayed in a more thoughtfully designed property. Every detail added to our comfort and ease in the Treehouse. The proximity to Volcano National Park can’t be beat, and the solitude was just what we were looking for. Two-person tub with jacuzzi, indoor shower that feels like it’s out doors. Huge washer and dryer perfect for all those dirty hiking clothes and beach towels. A full kitchen allowed us to cook for ourselves, which is great since there aren’t a lot of eating out options near by, particularly Mondays and Tuesdays. That being said, do yourself a favor and hit the nearby Volcano Story (small market) first thing in the morning and grab a couple-four spam musubi. They were the best we had the whole trip. If you’re looking for a romantic mountain hideaway on the Big Island, Maile Tree House is what you’re looking for. "

"Our Volcano Tree House!
Nice and quiet among the ferns and yellow ginger, truly feels like you are in the jungle (in a good way). We spent a couple nights at the fancy hotel, but this comfort of home is so appreciated. We missed the details about the espresso machine but the coffee maker is great for our Ka’u coffee! We made our own breakfast to fuel our body for the long day of hiking and sun. Love it. Nice to feel like home. It is so close to everything you would need/want: store, restaurants, food truck and the National park. Very convinient."
Aug 01, 2023 - Gigi D., Kapaa, HI

"Most unique stay of our Hawaii visit
This place is just so unique and charming. Please take time to look it over. If you want quiet and charming, this treehouse is for you! So much provided. So away from crowds. So lovely inside. We enjoyed coffee on the deck each morning and the fireplace in the evenings! "
Jun 07, 2023 - Lea S., Florence, AL

"Beautiful Comfortable Home in the Jungle
My sister and I stayed at Maile Treehouse for 2 nights. We had the bed in the lower suite configured as a king. The beds, sofas, and chairs were all very comfortable. The home is lovely... super clean, with lots of windows, and filled with attractive art. Arrival Instructions were easy to follow, and the House Book very thorough. The surrounding jungle was magnificent! And, communicating with the property host was quick and easy. We will stay at Maile Treehouse again."
May 21, 2023 - Karl D., Ukiah, CA

"Unique and lovely home close to Volcanoes Nt'l Park
A wonderful home with unique layout and thoughtful design throughout. Comfortable and inviting. Good location near Volcano village and Nt'l Park though a bit hard to find on bumpy side road. Great spaces to sit outdoors. Kids stayed downstairs. Separate outdoor entrance for downstairs bedroom and bath which was fine for us but may not be for families with younger kids. All in all we loved the place. "
May 19, 2023 - Jonathan L., Cambridge, MA

"Serene getaway
Absolutely loved the tree house. The location was great, the gardens stunning and the silence (notwithstanding the birds and frogs!) was bliss. My only recommendation would be to advise guests to stock up on groceries before leaving Hilo. There is very little in Volcano and what is there is terribly expensive."
May 08, 2023 - Leigh F., Narre Warren, VIC

"lovely small treehouse type accomodation
Overall a pleasant experience but it is quite small. Really best suited to a couple or two friends- why
1. the upper part is quite open in that bedroom does not have door, limited privavcy eg if someone wanted to nap you would be able to hear everyhing from living area;
2. the two bedrooms are connected by an outdoor staircase- so the second bedroom and bathroom is on the ground floor, living area, kitchen and master bedroom on upper floor;- it feels as though you are quite isolated in the second ground floor bedroom- and that is all there is there- laundry is outside the unit. But the pation on the ground floor is then only accessed by walking around the home ourside, or cutting through other persons bedroom

The home was clean, easy to find (do not use google maps- follow the property's directions)
Beautiful scenery; maybe the quietest place I have ever stayed ( although in the big stoirms or eathquake- both of which we experienced you feel quite "rural"- but all in a good way.

No dishwasher (lol I coped- none is listed FYI) and the town of Volcano has really all your basic needs and there are some good food trucks etc.
Super close to VNP-could not be closer I think- maybe 4 minutes?
Overall a lovely stay but was not quite what I expected- I may not have paid enough attention to the description.

A lovely quiet, naturey stay, close to VNP. Just not quite what I expected- but would stay again.

"Top notch
Our fourth stay at this property. Never disappointed. "
Jan 29, 2023 - William K., Benton, IL

"Magical
Great time. Didn't rain once. Sunny the whole time which I hear is rare for the east side of the Big Island. Loved the rental home. Located in a tropical rain forest. The birds singing outside reminded me of the jungle. The jacuzzi was a lot of fun. The two-sided fireplace made us feel at home. The views were terrific through the home's many windows. One suggestion. Parking, backing out, etc. was a challenge. Can anything be done to improve that situation? "
Jan 19, 2023 -

"Beautiful, even better than we expected!
This place really is magical! All of the pros to being in a treehouse with none of the cons. Great layout, squeaky clean, well stocked and very tastefully decorated. The owners and property management folks really pay attention to detail!

The kitchen is perfect! Everything you may need, including good sharp kitchen knives and proper cutting boards. Oil and the essential spices included!

We loved the jet tub in the trees, that's an experience all it's own. We also really enjoyed the view of the stars from bed. On a clear night, it's like you're sleeping in the sky... absolutely magical! We only wish we stayed longer.

Lastly, we would like to thank the property management team for making the experience so easy. They were prompt with their responses, and were proactive in making sure we didn't get lost on our way in. Thank you, and we hope to be back soon! "

"Clean,Quiet,Nature
My wife and I stayed 3 nights. This is a return trip to the area and we really enjoyed our stay. The house was extremely clean and we enjoyed all the comfort of a home. Very quiet location. Also, communication was superb! They had us down load an app that listed tons of information on the house! Thank You!"

"Wonderful neighbor island get away!
Great location! Easy to get to. Right in Volcano, but deep enough into the fern/ohia forest to feel isolated from the rest of the a good way! The interiors are beautifully crafted and taken care of. A genuine gem..."

Had a great time. Lovely place to stay. Would rent it again."

"Unique !
The Treehouse is a one of a kind vacation rental surrounded by beautiful trees and plants. Wildlife sounds abound ! If you want to spend time at the Volcano park, this is your place. The second bedroom downstairs is great for some privacy or snorers. Having breakfast on the second story Lanai was like being in the wilderness with the convenience of modern living. The only downside of the place is that it is very very dark at night in the area. Bring flashlights if you are arriving after dark to turn on all the lights at the house etc. would love to come back !"
Aug 11, 2022 - , Edmonds, WA

"We LOVED Our Staycation at the Maile Treehouse!!
The Maile Treehouse was a wonderful reprieve from the hot temperatures in Kona. The location was wonderful, just minutes away from the entrance of Volcano Park, a short drive to the general store, plus a smattering of cute cafes & restaurants to boot. The checkin and checkout process was incredibly easy with no problems at all. The Treehouse, inside & out, was beautiful, incredible, breathtaking, etc. We spent most of our time in the backyard and lanai. This property was well-stocked and very clean. We very much enjoyed our time here and hope to make it back sometime soon. Mahalo for sharing this wonderful space with us! Mahalo nui loa!"
Aug 08, 2022 - , Kailua Kona, HI

"Amazing and peaceful stay
The Maile Treehouse was our home for three wonderful nights while we visited the volcano area of the Big Island. It was the cleanest, best stocked and most delightful place we stayed during our three-week Hawaii vacation. Coming back to relax on the deck listening to the sounds of the forest was just perfect after a long day of hiking. I've already recommended it to friends! I'd give ten stars if I could."
Aug 03, 2022 - Nancy M.

"Best Treehouse Ever!!
The Maile Treehouse was perfect! So close to the park so we could go for hikes, watch sunset/sunrise, view the volcano and stargaze all hours of the day and night! The house was amazing - well decorated and super clean. By far the best place we have ever stayed!"
Aug 02, 2022 - Julie J., Monument, CO

"Amazing Spot
The Maile Treehouse was the cleanest rental house we've ever stayed in. Everything was in great shape and the house was a perfect stop for us as we explored Volcano National Park and the Hilo side of the Big Island. We didn't cook dinner but it was great to have a spot to eat breakfast each morning and the kitchen was well equipped with anything one would need to cook. The owner's booklet was super helpful to find us a spot to eat dinner. We just wish we had more time! The rental management company was very responsive and all in all it was a great stay. The only thing I will say is to make sure you read the description of the property carefully - the first and second floors are not accessible to each other inside - our kids got a little freaked out by this (they are teenagers) - and so they slept upstairs and the adults slept downstairs. It does state this clearly in the description but just be aware that the two floors are only connected via the front steps. "
Jul 17, 2022 - Katharine C., Niskayuna, NY

"Truly in the forest!
Beautiful vacation rental in the heart of the forest! The facility was spotless, well-equipped, and very comfortable. We were glad we arrived during the day as finding this at night would have been challenging. The secondary bedroom is downstairs and only accessible by going outside - something to keep in mind if you are traveling with young children. We were within minutes of Volcanos National Park entrance and close to a small grocery store. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
Jun 28, 2022 - Swati T., Windermere, FL

"great location near to Volcanoe National Park.
The top floor of this rental property is beautiful and well maintained. It is in a great location very near to Volcanoe National Park. However, there are no curtains in the bedroom and light from the moon made it diffilcult to sleep. The bottom floor is very small and the entrance to the unit is through the bathroom which is a little bit awkward. In addition, I tried multiple times to ask about early luggage drop off and did not get a clear answer. I would recommend this property for two people staying in the top floor. "
Jun 22, 2022 - , Skokie, IL

"MAGICAL
Such a cool pace to stay - literally in the rainforest which in is on the slope of a VOLCANO! We loved being so close to the Volcano Park! It was a little weird to not have any blinds or drapes - we felt a little weirded out while showering...but the house next door is abandoned...and the trees offer a lot or privacy! "
Jun 20, 2022 - ruthanne e., Wellsville, UT

"Excellent!
The house is beautiful, clean, very thoughtful detail throughout. The kitchen is well stored, beds comfortable, environment gorgeous, convenient to Volcano National Park, excellent communication with property manager."

"A little heaven on earth
Oh my goodness. This was bliss. The surroundings were beautiful, quiet and calming. The kitchen was great and very well stocked so I could cook while looking at the wildlife and especially the Kalih pheasants that visited the garden every day. The showers and jacuzzi were great after a day of hiking through volcanos, coffee plantations, lava fields and green, black and white sand beaches. The perfect retreat at the end of the day. Thank you for sharing this with my family."
Apr 26, 2022 - Joanne S., Sherman, TX

"Total Bliss
This place is pure magic. From the utterly beautiful setting, to all of the thoughtful details inside, this vacation rental is one of a kind. We loved every minute, especially all the small details that make this such a special place. Would love to come back again soon!"
Apr 18, 2022 - Wendy H., Seattle, WA

"Relaxing vacation rental with lots of amenities
I stayed 2 nights at Maile Treehouse and on arrival access was exactly as the instructions explained. The unit was immaculate inside and out. It is very well stocked with all the essentials and more! The biggest bonus is that you are located in what feels like a bird sanctuary. Staying in Volcano Village is nice too, as you are very close (5 minutes) to Volcano Park, 5 minutes to the local Sunday market, and less distance to really good restaurants. the neighborhood is quiet and we felt very safe, "

"Quiet, romantic, nature escape
Such a fun, unique property in the heart of volcano park! We just loved the setting of this property. It was in a great location, minutes from the park. Very comfortable, neat & well provisioned. We will be back! "

"Beautiful Place in Volcanio
What a gorgeous place to stay! We rented both the lower and upper units for our family and were very comfortable. The interior is beautifully finished and there is a lanai that looks out over the fern forest. The manager was easily available if we needed anything, but we didn't! There is a great kitchen for cooking too. There are games to play and books to read if you want...lots of things to make guests comfortable. We have never stayed in Volcano before in many years of coming to the Big Island, but now Maile Treehouse will be a priority if we can stay there in the future!"

"Magnificient Treehouse
My best friend and I stayed at the Maile Treehouse for two nights. We LOVED it. It was so unique and perfect in every way for the start of our Hawaiian vacation. It's a short drive to Volcano National Park and there are several nice, small places to grab a bite to eat. We also stopped at the General Store and picked up items to make breakfast. If you stay here don't forget to try Volcano winery. If I had my own vacation get away the Treehouse would be it.

"Complete Escape!
The treehouse was amazing, exactly as pictured. The quiet surroundings were a welcome retreat after a day of hiking. The morning light was especially enjoyable for reading and coffee. We would highly recommend this escape while visiting Volcano."

"Great Stay in the Treehouse
The location and amenities were great, close to the entrance for Hawaii Volcanoes Nat’l Park. The shower made you feel like you were outside, the kitchen was equipped for cooking, and overall we had a very good time.
The living room furniture could use cleaning or replacing as it did have a musty smell."

"Tropical Oasis
From the moment we arrived at this secluded gem of a house in its lush, tropical setting, we knew we made the right choice for our first time on the Big Island. The upstairs lanai blends right in with the surrounding trees, and it’s the perfect spot to have a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at sunset - and to do some bird watching, too. The short 5-minute drive to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park came in handy, as Kilauea erupted about an hour prior to our arrival!

The house is beautifully furnished and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen. It was bright and airy, with plenty of windows to view nature. There are several restaurants nearby that provided an array of dining options. The management company was extremely helpful when a minor issue occurred.

"Maile TreeHouse
Overall a very pleasant stay.

The property was spotless, comfortable and matched the description. The kitchen was well stocked with gear and appliances. We also used the washer/drier. Wifi/Internet access was fine (although we only surfed web).

And yes, the fireplace is wonderful.

The only negative is that the bedroom does not have curtains. That was not so much a privacy issue (nothing but rain forest around) but when the full moon wakes you up at 4 in the morning ...

I would recommend the property. "

"Maile Treehouse so cozy and comfy after a day exploring!
Lovely home in the rain forest. Very clean, loved the coziness as it gets chilly even in August. Great location to explore the Volcano side. Shawna at Salt Water Realty is super responsive if you have any questions. Everything was top notch. "

"Paradise in the rainforest
The Maile Treehouse is an incredibly finished luxury get away tucked into the rain forest just a few miles from Volcano Nat'l Park. We loved every minute of our stay hear from the dazzling green ou every window - and it is all windows, to the awesome bath/shower, to the sounds of the rains. The Maile tree house was the highlight of the places we stayed on our trip to Hawaii!"

"Beautiful Stay
We absolutely loved staying at the treehouse! It was so well-appointed, private and comfortable. You really feel like you're outside with all of the big windows and beautiful wood. My girls loved having the downstairs unit to themselves.

A couple of notes for future bookers:
--the address on google and address they send you in the welcome letter are different, neither is exactly right by GPS, but the letter has the right number and GPS will get you on the right road.
--the pics imply two twin beds downstairs, but when we arrived they were made up as a king. My girls were ok, but I'd recommend being clear about what you want when booking.
--there are no shades or curtains on the windows upstairs, even near the bed, so if you need dark to sleep and want to do so after daybreak, consider bringing a sleep mask.
--the kitchen is well-stocked but cookware is a bit lacking. You might bring your favorite skillet if you want to scramble eggs."

"Cute Place, Poor Customer Service
My family and I recently stayed at "Maile's Tree House", managed by Salt Water Vacations. The property is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The house, which is basically a studio apartment with a second separate bedroom and bathroom, was clean and comfortable, however there were several problems.

The immediate problemss with the house were that there are no screens on any of the windows (highly unusual in Hawaii). The house smelled bad, with the downstairs separate unit smelling even worse (both beyond the usual staleness that a closed up residence in Hawaii has that is alleviated by opening windows). Finally, the dishes were dirty. We had to wash all the dishes we wanted to use prior to using them.

What was worse was the dealings with Salt Water Vacations. They were unorganized, unprofessional, hostile, and responded to our requests and concerns with excuses and what we call "Boilerplate BS", rather than responding with apologies and solutions. The problems we had with them are too numerous to detail here. Suffice it to say, I would never recommend staying in a vacation property "managed" by Salt Water Vacations."

"Absolute perfection
This property is beautiful beyond anything you can imagine. The craftsmanship is amazing. Everything you need is at your fingertips. Our agent, Shawna, was attentive and easily contacted. On a scale of 1-10, we would place this as a 12 "
