Kona Makai is one of the premier sought after oceanfront condo developments in Kona. It's near the heart of Kailua town. Ideal location near shopping, restaurants, and the beach at the Kailua pier. Building 2 is a great location in the complex with it's proximity to the oceanfront pool area.

*Starting July 22nd Kona Makai will be starting the exterior painting project on Building 4.
Currently they are estimating between 1.5 - 2 Months to complete each building for this work.
Their current order for the painting of the buildings mentioned below with the possible affected dates.
Building 4 7/22 - 9-22
Building 5 9/22 - 11/22
Building 3 11/22 - 1/22
The painting and spalling contractor has agreed to take a break from work for Ironman and the Christmas holidays. Work will stop from October 21st-29th for Ironman. Work will stop from December 23rd- January 3rd for the Holidays
All dates are subject to change and has no say or control in if dates are changed. Dates are given by the complex's hired painting vendor.
The mentioned work will be affecting access to units at possible given times between the work being done on the building. Kona Makai will be sending notices of more specific dates that access will be affected between work hours. We unfortunately cannot provide any given dates for this. Other areas such as lanai access will be affected during times as well. Furthermore the AC will also not be allowed during specific times/dates when the work is going on.
Noise and obstructed views are also to be expected between the dates mentioned.
The contractor plans on beginning spalling repairs on building 2 on September 9th , 2024 at 8:00 am. They plan to set up a scaffold at the oceanside end of the building and they will begin work on the column supporting landings in the stairwell. As they proceed, they will be working on leading edges of lanais on both sides of the building, windowsills, walls, and stairs throughout the building. When building 2 is complete they plan on moving to building 1 and then building 6.

Cancellations of less than ninety (90) days prior to arrival shall forfeit the entire rent and excise tax (less cleaning fees) unless we are able to re-rent the property. Refunds on any forfeiture will be issued the dollar value the unit is re-rented for during the same dates as the canceled reservation. There is no refund for early departure or no shows.

"Wonderful stay!

"Great Kona Condo
We found the condo itself to be well stocked, very clean and nicely updated. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. As noted in another review, the bedroom facing the pool area has sheer curtains only so mornings are early and bright�� Air conditioning and ceiling fans kept us comfortable as needed. The grounds are very well maintained with gorgeous landscaping. The community is very quiet which was fine for us on this vacation but could be seen as prohibitive to some: no talking on your phone or playing music on the lanai.

Beautiful sunsets from the deck. Plenty of parking and wagons to carry your groceries or luggage to the building. The location was great and a perfect home base to go exploring the island from. We grilled by the pool and made many meals in the kitchen and found plenty of dishes, utensils and glassware. (We has friends staying in another unit that this was not the case)
We would love to come back again!"

"An amazing experience
This property is a gem. A piece of heaven. We felt it was our own little slice of paradise.

This was exactly what we wanted. The description was perfect to what we experienced. Great rental unit. Super clean and organized which made our stay the best it could be. A great homebase to launch our adventures on the island. And always nice to end the day with the best sunset we've ever seen followed by a swim in the pool and a hot tub. The unit had all the amenities needed and best of all it had in-unit laundry services which was so amazing and allowed up to do a carry-on for our time away instead of luggage. So amazing

The property group was great to work with as well. We actually stopped in to the office while randomly passing by. The two girls in the office where easy to deal with and were so genuine and helpful. They followed up during our stay. Kept in contact and I can't say enough great things about the property management company especially Blake and the two lovely ladies in the office.

We will definitely stay here again without question and have already told so many of our family members the same.

While there, we totally enjoyed the Volcano National Park, the black sand beach, the local strip in Kona, and of coarse the kona coffee. A great stop for everyone is just a few hundred feet away at GREEN FLASH for some of the best breakfast coffees and drinks around. And great conversations.

Canada is home but will always remember this vacation!!!

"Beautiful Unit with Quirks
The unit was spacious, well appointed, and extremely well-maintained. The two-bed each with en suite was great! The views from the patio were spectacular.

The check-in process was a bit strange - we filled in a check-in form and never saw a property manager. The other quirk was the lack of privacy in the bedroom facing the common areas -- there were only sheers on the sliding glass window -- no drapes or heavy curtains, so we got to see and be seen in the evenings...

Overall, though -- the unit was great and we would definitely book again! "

"Beautiful Hawaiian Paradise!
Great place to stay in Hawaii! Great access to shopping, restaurants, beautiful view of the ocean where we could see dolphins swimming by while enjoying our morning coffee/tea. The condo was spotlessly clean, with access to linens, towels, beach towels, lawn chairs, dishes for cooking and lots of other useful things! The pool and grounds were perfectly maintained. Tennis courts were also well kept and great to play on! Couldn’t ask for anything more! "

"Wonderful experience
My spouse and two adult children stayed here for just over a week. The property is in excellent condition and it had all the amenities we were looking for. The picture from the lanai doesn't do the view justice - it is spectacular! Location is convenient to the 'downtown' area by car (not really practical to walk). Would definitely want to stay here again if we return to Hawaii in the future."

"Family Vacation
Not a great experience. Had a bad invasion of spiders in the kitchen. Contacted property management, said they would send pest one came and never received follow up call. Couldn't leave anything on kitchen counters without small spiders covering everything. Also place needs better cleaning. Ceiling fans covered with thick layer of dust and spreading everywhere when fans running...had to limit use in certain rooms."

"Amazing, Amazing Place!
It is hard to imagine a more perfect stay than ours was here. Not only were the amenities listed all perfect, but there were amenities we didn't even know we needed, like a blender for morning smoothies or an amazing recliner for afternoon naps! The views from every window in the house are stunning, three ocean views and one right out into the banana trees outside. The furniture is all new and very comfortable, especially the living room and it was so nice to have an eating area both inside and outside on the lanai. The location inside the complex was perfect, near enough to the parking lot, but very secluded and extremely quiet on the second floor. The complex itself was amazing, not only views of the ocean waves 10 feet away from the comfortable lounge chairs, but coastline access so you can go down and look at the tide pools yourself and grills just a few feet away if you'd like to cook outdoors. You can also get ocean views while swimming in the pool, which is just over the top amazing. Not to exclude the amazing, lush landscaping with beautiful trees, bushes and flowers that were all immaculately maintained. There was always plenty of parking and the location of the complex was perfect, close enough to downtown so we could drive in quickly, but far enough away to be much less crowded and busy. When we had to communicate some very minor issues, our host responded super quickly and the issues were fixed in one case before I even knew it. If I could give this stay more than 5 stars, I would!"

"Great property
This place worked very nicely for our visit to the big island. It’s aging nicely - like its tenants. It’s clean and comfortable and has plenty of fans. It has a/c but we didn’t use it (the owners mention that they prefer you don’t use the a/c).
We like to eat in and we found the kitchen along with the outdoor bbq area to be perfectly adequate.
It’s well situated for easy access to town. We had a car for the week and there is plenty of parking
Mattresses are firm. Furniture is comfy. Grounds are well kept, and the pool is a plus. There are also lovely little birds that visit you on the lanai each morning during coffee (Kona variety - the best!). You will also find yourself pausing (wherever you are) to watch the sun set each night over the Pacific. The view from this condo is spectacular.
This is my 3-star way of saying this place gets a 4+ star rating."

"Excellent condo and complex
Condo 2-201 in the Kona Makai condo complex has been remodeled. It is clean, comfortable, and has everything we needed including beach chairs and towels. We enjoyed breakfasts on the lanai watching the waves, and dinners in the BBQ area watching the sunset. Knudsen associates were responsive and helpful. Worth the price! I highly recommend. "
