Nearby Activities in Governors Harbour

Governor's Harbour is the main town on the island of Eleuthera, with a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is safe and friendly. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks and bikes. There is excellent sightseeing, as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, and a bottomless ocean hole.

Things To Do in Governors Harbour

For most people who make the trip to Eleuthera, the island of freedom, they come for its peace and serenity -- that feeling of being far removed from the rest of the world. One of the best things about Eleuthera is that you'll almost always have a beach to yourself. And the sand is pink! You can go swimming and snorkeling and see stingrays and other aquatic life here. The Glass Window Bridge is one of the coolest spots to visit on the island. The Ocean Hole is a spot you'll never forget.. read more

"Beautiful Beach Stay
Property was as described. Had a little trouble with A/C working and keys to get in upon arrival. Not exactly the ideal outcome when you have been traveling all day, arrive in the dark and expect a smooth arrival. Property manager and owner took care of us pretty timely though and we were able to proceed with getting in and unloading our stuff.
The location is great. Directly over a pristine beach, probably the best beach we have ever experienced in quite a bit of beach traveling. Was wonderful hearing the waves constantly throughout the day and night. The property is on a cove on the Atlantic side and we went during the slow season so we saw only a handful of people on the beach each day. Pretty much your own private beach the whole time. Couldn't ask for anything more since we came to relax.
It was slow season so a few restaurants like tippys and some others in the town were not open. We might plan differently next time we come.
Overall, know what to expect when coming to this island. It is as laid back as it gets. This is not a 5 star resort. This is a beautiful island, off the beaten path. Go there and learn about the culture of the island. The locals are such friendly people. Just make sure you know your expectations before going to Eleuthera, which we did, and you will have an unforgettable time.

"Wonderful week on the beach
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Pebbles. Pebbles is right on a beautiful stretch of magnificent beach with miles of pink-white sand and crystal blue water. Uncrowded is an understatement. I estimate we saw about three people per km of beach. The picture is accurate but reality is even better. Angie made the cottage sparkling clean, Robbie made sure everything was working properly, Claudel kept the grounds and got a liter of fresh coconut water for us (delicious and good for you) and Patricia made it all run smoothly. Thank you friendly, helpful, hardworking, good folks of Eleuthera. We wanted to relax and get away and we are so glad we did it here."

"Magical beachfront
Wow. We had the best time here. I hope to return to pebbles. This is my 3rd time to the island and my absolute favorite place I have stayed. Patricia was great to communicate with fast responses. We used the grill a lot and enjoyed all the other amenities provided. Perfect location as well. "

"Fantastic Beach
House was easy to locate. Property management communication was very good. We had zero issues with the house. It needs some updating but we aren't there for the house. The location is absolutely gorgeous with a beach that feels secluded. It is a 30sec walk to the beach. Most days we saw very few people on the beach. Snorkeling is pretty decent right in front of the house. Highly recommend Pebbles. "

"Cozy cottage in beautiful location
This was a very affordable place on Eleuthera, and had everything you need. Items inside were a little dated, but it didn’t matter. Definitely recommend. Of note, power went out a couple times; if you need power for medical reasons, I suggest staying where you have a generator."

"Dec 2023 Eleuthera stay
The area is absolutely beautiful. The beach is awesome to walk on and the water is great for snorkeling.
The house itself is not exactly what we thought we were getting. The house needs major updating. Cabinet doors in the master bathroom were flashing off the hinges. There is no privacy when taking a shower as there are no blinds covering the shower windows allowing anyone out side to see you. The furniture is out dated and not comfortable. The kitchen utensils, pots and pans are in terrible shape."

"Laid back atmosphere with spectacular ocean & beach views.
We just returned from a relaxing week at Pebbles. It’s panoramic view of the ocean & beach was spectacular, the colours of the water & sky continually changing was breathtaking. The cottage is quite private, up from the beach with access about a 5 min walk but not direct. Full size sliding doors ensured a view from both the bedroom & living areas. The kitchen was stocked with essential housewares. Governors harbour, restaurants, groceries etc were all close by. Naamon Rolle provided us with a great SUV out of GH airport, very good service. We drove south 1 day then north another along Queens highway stopping at Mel’s Snack shack for lunch & the best coconut cream pie. The Bahamian people are so welcoming & helpful. We always felt safe. Simply an intimate, laid back relaxing holiday!"

"Home Away from Home in Paradise
The house was beautiful to match the view. It was super clean and well-kept. It was nice to have items like beach towels and a cloth cooler to be able to use. It was easy to find and a perfect distance from Governor's Harbor. We were greeted by the owner, and she later graciously resolved an internet issue. She followed up later to make sure it was still working. In our opinion, this home is located on the prettiest beach of the island. We will certainly be coming back!"

"Great Secluded Beach
Pebbles was a very simple residence, but the location was beautiful! If you enjoy being on a beach and seeing nothing but ocean and sand, you will love it here. We did. We were out of season, so many restaurants and shops were closed. If you need to be at a different restaurant daily, you may be limited depending on the time of year. The hosts were very accommodating and responsive to our requests. Eleuthera is a beautiful, rustic island and the sightseeing was a real thrill for us."

"Pebbles Stay
We just love "On the Rocks" and "Pebbles". Great location and best beach spot on the island. This is our go to when on Eleuthera. Jennifer, Property Manager, was the best. Quick to respond to any request, and helped us with several reservations, which was a difficult task during the off season.
We will definitely be back. "

"Pebbles Paradise
We have been to Lutra 3 times and gone to many beaches, however, this location takes first prize! Cottage was clean, neat, and directly on the best beachfront on the island. We had some internet/tv streaming issues that the owner got involved with immediately. She took care of this issue and a low water pressure issue promptly! Snorkling on the rocks/reef out front was quite good. We would love to stay here again very soon!"

"Relaxing Vacation
We spent 8 days at Pebbles. The Views from the cottage were spectacular and, you will see very few people. The House was clean, well stocked and, comfortable. If you want long private walks along the beach in either direction this place is for you. "

"Stay at Pebbles March 2023
Wonderful stay with a phenomenal location. House is very nice but don’t expect luxury. When we had a minor issue it was taken care of immediately. Our host was very nice and helpful. Eleuthera and the house was a pleasant surprise."

"Pebbles
Location is AWESOME, owners were great, nice to have 2 baths, washer/dryer, AC & a dishwasher! Walked the beach at sunrise & sunset and had it to ourselves other than one other very friendly gentleman."

"Venus Pool vacation
This was our 4th vacation to Eleuthera and Gov Harbour, but the first time staying at Pebbles. The home is on the beach on the Atlantic side and the waves rolled in continually, providing a perfect background 24/7. The owners were also staying on the property in the main house and they were lovely and helpful. Their four sweet potcake dogs visited us everyday. The layout is a 1 bed/2b bath and while there is a sofa bed in case you are more than 2 guests, it was not the most comfortable sofa bed. We will definitely look to stay here again on our next trip."

"Cottage on a beautiful beach!
We had a wonderful time staying at Pebbles, we would definitely stay there again. The location is perfect as it is only a mile from Tippy”s and a few miles from Governors Harbor. There is a perfect area to swim just below the cottage, especially at low tide. The cottage could use some updating, but we were aware of this from other reviews. It had everything we needed, including 2 beach chairs, beach towels, and portable cooler. The house managers were responsive when we needed help with the internet. The views from the cottage and patio are incredible! "

"Anniversary Trip
We have been all over the world and we expected to be underwhelmed in Eleuthera BUT it is very special and there is no place like it! I would live here permanently. Pebbles is located on the BEST spot in Eleuthera, once special attraction is the Venus pool, it is indescribable!

That being said we have a few cons- (but keep in mind the property is amazingly affordable and is older)-
Bugs-it is porous. No matter what they tell you the bugs will get in. We are not new to the tropics and we are not naive. They told us to keep the doors and screens shut, which we did, but the sliding screen doors were hard to maneuver as the wheels were gone. I know this seems a small thing but when you live in and out of doors it is best if the the sliders work well. There were bugs and not just coming in from the few seconds the screens were opened.
Cleanliness-for the most part it was great but two things really bothered us. 1). I had to clean the entire fridge before I could put my food in it. Someone spilled something dark and ugly which seeped under the glass and frame. I understand I may be more picky than others, so this is on me but I took the entire fridge apart and cleaned it, all the selfs and drawers. 2). The Kitchen window was full of dead bugs and old cobwebs and the frame was dirty and greasy. I know it sounds petty but it was gross to look at, who wants to look at dead bugs stuck to the screen. It is, after all, a hard earned vacation for us. I almost hosed it down myself but wanted to be respectful of their water consumption. Unexpected- We were there at extremely high tides and experienced some storming. The access to the beach was only possible at low tide. We are both great swimmers and can handle rough oceans but this was not what we expected. Had we known this, it would had been a deal breaker for us as we swim several times a day. Pros-The owner and property management team were amazing and provided a high level of customer ser"

"Wonderful Location!
The property was perfectly located on the amazing pink sands of Eleuthera. Renting was smooth and directions provided led us to the house. Location Location Location...restaurants like Tippy's and LaBorgavillea are right down the street, and a short drive into Governor's Harbour has everything from fresh caught seafood at the docks, to groceries from the well appointed store. "
Nov 01, 2021 - Joe C., Chester, NH

"Great location, some issues with maintenance and bugs
Positives:
- Great location on Banks road between Tippy's and Bougainvillea
- Beautiful beach

Negatives:
- Large number of bugs inside house, even for Eleuthera. Every night, the floor in kitchen is covered with large numbers of new dead bugs
- House very poorly maintained"
Jul 20, 2021 - Jordan A., Sherborn, MA

"Beautiful beach locale
The beach at this property is one of the nicest on the Atlantic side of the island. Natural rock breakers stretch out from shore to form a pristine cove with calm clear waters teaming with marine life. Great for kids who are wary of large waves. Atlantic breezes keep the bugs away. The house is clean and cozy with new bathrooms and kitchen. Perched on a small bluff, it offers stunning ocean views. Location is convenient to Governors Harbor and close to Tippy's and Le Bougainvillea for dinner. Hope to return."

"Its about details
Overall the house is nice, the details were lacking. House was not prepared for our arrival, the owner made a mistake on the arrival date, we arrived at a dirty house, with dirty sheets and towels. Patricia came right over and made up the bed, we did have to request cleaning, there was dirt on the floors, and hair/toothpaste in the bathroom from the prev. guests. This request was met with resistance and defensiveness, when asked, Patricia's response was "is this not clean enough?". I said no and requested cleaning as was intended. We paid one night for a dirty, unprepared rental, on top of having to pay extra to make the international call to our phone provider. She promised a bottle of wine that was never delivered. The cleaning was not thorough, as we had to clean blood from the toilet seat and plunge/remove previous guest hair from the shower drain. White towels were stained. Additionally, the grill was too rusty to use and there were few kitchen utensils provided. There were no spatulas, could not make eggs or pancakes. Utensils provided were rusty. We thought about requesting these items, however we felt the defensive aggressive demeanor the first night was not worth dealing with. The new kitchen appliances were nice, but why not provide the little things to make them usable?"

"Peebles Cottage
Our vacation experience was exactly what we were looking for. The cottage was situated right on the beach and it was quaint and cozy; perfect for two. There was seldom anyone on the beach and the solitude enhanced the perfection of the surrounding. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is where you have to go. Be prepared for a "cottage" experience. You will not find marble countertops and stainless steel appliances; however, the cottage is well stocked. Overall, the cottage needs a little TLC. Although the bathroom is undergoing renovations, further work is still required. A fresh coat of paint throughout the cottage, updated appliances and new patio doors would add to the enjoyment of the stay. I am sure this will all be done in due course. Overall an outstanding vacation and owner was extremely helpful in every way."

"Right on a magnificent beach
The location, view, beach and access, privacy and cleanliness of the property were everything we hoped for. We had a wonderful, relaxing, rejuvenating stay. This is the best experience Eleuthera offers except for the friendliness of the Eleutherans (or if you are a bonefisherman).
I recommend that the owners install a water processing system to remove the smell of hydrogen sulfide from the tap/shower water. It's not a showstopper but detracts from the otherwise wonderful experience of staying in Pebbles. This pretty much explains 4 instead of 5 stars for property condition."
Feb 09, 2019 - David G., Farragut, TN

"Pebbles
Great spot, owner is very friendly, kind and helpful.
Beach is amazing.
On the downside, the house needs a little bit of love and not as clean as I would expected."

"Perfect Location of Pebbles Cottage on Eleuthera
Pebbles Cottage has the advantage of being situated in the middle of the island and right on the Atlantic shores. Close to a few reputable eateries (such as Tippy's and our fav Fine Foods) and places like the Leon's Preservation). It only takes a few hours to get to a northern island destination (such as Preacher's Caves or our fav Queen's Bath) and the same time to a southern destination (such as Lighthouse Beach or the Marina). Cottage was clean and well-maintained; it looked just as the photos suggest. Yes, the tap water does not smell great as mentioned in other reviews but that's to be expected with sulfur in water (commonly found in well water). The few issues we had during our stay were out of the ordinary: the microwave failed but the owner and housekeeper had a mechanic inspect then replace it within a day. The few things that were out of stock (such as toilet paper) we could have easily requested or picked up at a store. We would have enjoyed a DVD player that worked for the late evenings. Owner is friendly and helpful. Beach was beautiful and semi-private; only flaw was the washed up garbage against the coastal line of the beach (actually all over Eleuthera). Pebbles had a new housekeeper and she was very kind and helpful though hard to get in touch with. The bed at Pebbles was comfortable - a bonus! You could open the patio door in the room and listen to ocean waves all day and night. Neighbors were hardly seen or heard. Only thing that was confusing was the reservation end of things through and finding the cottage in the first place. We were told how to get to "On the Rocks" but on arrival still drove past it 3 times - so did a local man who came to repair our rental flat tire. Fav activities was hiking the preserve, visiting Queen's Bath, snorkeling. Check out Eleuthera Tours - great service! Make sure to rent a 4x4 for beach hunting and save up for the grocery costs or better yet, bring your own food - though Rum is cheap!!!! "

"Amazing vacation rental with fabulous views!
We really enjoyed our 8 night stay in Pebbles. The location is absolutely amazing and we went days with only seeing a handful of other people on the beach all day. We got married on the beach right in front of the house during our stay at Pebbles. The ceremony and views were beyond perfect! Pebbles is a beautiful rental and we were pleased with the house. It had all of the amentities that we needed. We thought the Friday night fish fry was fun and really enjoyed many meals at the Buccaneer Inn. We had the nicest meal at the 1648 Restaurant our wedding night, but it was pricey. We really hope to get back to Pebbles. The owner was there during our stay and she was very helpful with all. We had an amazing, romantic stay at Pebbles and would go back!"

"Pebbles
The extremely well situated property with breathtaking views was exactly as I older home perfect for those wanting a simple and relaxing time to enjoy the mostly deserted beach and incredible views. We loved it. Some hints: - The owner let us know that we could use the very short path to the beach connected to the house next door as our short path was a bit shaky for us. -The dryer is in the house next door. -The Venus Pool never materialized as shown in the photos. With official low tide times (obtained from the Haynes Library) I continued to check. The tide was never as low it must be for the pool to look like the photos. There is certainly nothing you can do about the pull of the moon! -Bring beach shoes so you can climb on the rocks and enjoy another view.-We like to cook our own food. The Island Farm had the best broccoli, papayas, fresh herbs, wine and liquor, etc ever. That along with fish from the dock in Governor's Harbor (look for the umbrella to go up around 3:30) and the nicely stocked kitchen at Pebbles completed our wonderful stay."
Feb 12, 2018 - Deborah S., Nashville, TN

"Beautiful Location!!!
Pebbles is situated in a perfect location. The beach right out back is gorgeous. The proximity to Governor's Harbour is also highly desirable. Tippy's is right down the road and is always great. The Buccaneer Club is close as well and offers a great place to grab breakfast. 1648 is another fantastic place, especially to catch a meal on the balcony overlooking the sunset.

The home itself needs a lot of maintenance and was not in good condition for our trip. were very responsive and accommodating, though. They did everything they could to help address the issues with the house. They even offered us alternative housing options while we were there, but we decided the location of the property was too perfect to relocate.

Overall, pick Pebbles for the location. We hope they make some much needed renovations. If that happens, it would be easy to recommend the rental to others. "

"One of the more spectacular beaches in the Caribbean
While the interior of Pebbles is need of a facelift, the cottage does afford everything you might require for a week's stay. The shabbiness of the decor is more than made up for however by the magnificence of the sea views and the spectacular beach. Most mornings, until about 1PM, we were the only people on this incredible stretch of pink sand and aqua water, and we took utmost advantage of it. We would return as a result."

"Great location, but needs maintenance
We're a couple who travels quite a bit to remote places and we're return visitors to Eleuthera, which is a favorite destination for the beaches and snorkeling, the friendly people, and great restaurants. Pebbles is in a fantastic location to enjoy the water and the beach, but travelers should know that the house is in a state of disrepair. The master bathroom was partly under construction (shower unusable), the mattress was creaky and worn out, a molding fell from a doorway when we shut the bathroom door, the water smells sulfurous (cistern)and no other potable water is on site when you arrive. We had a bout of bad weather, which drove us indoors more than usual. If we'd had better weather we may not have noticed that there is no base to play music from an iPod,fans and fixtures are rusty, paint is peeling, especially in the bedroom, cupboards are not clean etc. Great location, but much more rustic than it appears in the photos. "

The folks were easy to deal with and responsive when we had questions. Great place to relax and enjoy the view! Everything we needed!"

"Lovely setting on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera
What a lovely setting on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera! The beach is spectacular with clear warm water, which changes in character from high to low tide. It's a great walk down to Tippy's and back for exercise. There were very few other people using the beach in November, when we were there. The property was very private because there was no one in the main house, but we don't think it would be intrusive if there were guests there. "

"Pebbles On The Rocks, Eleuthera
The house is an older style but was very comfortable for the two of us. Nice big comfy bed, well equipped kitchen, good internet connection, outdoor area with great views. A couple of little maintenance issues that were no big deal. Most importantly .... GREAT LOCATION ... house is metres from the water .... loved sitting on the back deck watching the ocean, walking down to the beach for a swim or snorkel and walking along the beach in either direction. 5 minute drive to Governors Harbour where there are a couple of reasonable supermarkets (a much better one in Rock Sound) and a couple of bottle shops. Overall, perfect for a very relaxing week."
