"Quiet Outdated Condo in the Forest
Overall our experience with this rental was ok, but slightly disappointing. The management company communicated well, booking and check-in was an easy process, and a minor issue with the kitchen range was handled promptly and professionally. Location is convenient to the lake and north shore attractions, but far enough off the main road to provide for peach and quite. We visited in the shoulder season, so expected some amenity limitations (e.g. pool closed); however, we were disappointed that almost all of the advertised development amenities were either not open or severely limited in hours. A simple inclusion of this info in the welcome email would have set expectations and prevented disappointment. The biggest factor impacting our experience was the outdated and worn furniture, kitchen utensils/appliances, and Motel 6 quality bath towels. The dishwasher was falling apart, the toaster barely worked, the random mishmash of kitchen utensils left much to be desired, and some of the items looked as if they had been in use since the late 80s. When we rent a place with a kitchen, we intend to use it and want the experience to be more akin to cooking at home than making due with leftovers from the thrift store. Did it keep us warm, dry, and safe? Yes. Were there positive aspects? Yes. Could you find a better overall experience in the area for a similar price? Very likely. We have stayed at many similar mountain town rentals across the west and unfortunately this was our least favorite due to the aforementioned issues."

"A Disappointing Stay at Forest View
I do not recommend this Rental. The listing does not accurately represent the condition of the unit which has a significant amount of deferred maintenance. Be prepared for peeling paint in the bathrooms, a broken kitchen faucet, cracked lamp shades, literal holes in the walls and openings in the ceilings plugged with tishoes. The property management company blamed the issues on an unresponsiveness owner and did not take responsibility for renting out this unit in an unacceptable condition. If you can afford to spend a few extra dollars l would highly recommend avoiding this place."

"Community building management
When looking for a place to stay one of the attractions to this property was the community area for my son and his friends for his 18th birthday ski trip. On Saturday evening we went to the community center for hot tub and some games. At 8:00 we were told by the manager that they were closing early, all the game room was already powered down!
Not only did management not want us there he never offered any assistance and was noticeably frustrated we wanted to play pool, it was only 9:00! Come to find out the change machine was turned off and he knew that and his comment was “ I don’t give change try the machine but it may not work! My son ran back to the condo to get change and came back to a pool table that was also broken! This was to be the evening to enjoy the facility but in stead we spent the evening being frustrated and intentionally forced out of the facility.
I will not be coming back to your complex and will be sure to spread the bad news to friends and family."

"comfortable and convenient
Our family of four enjoyed our stay, this is our 3rd time staying in this condo complex. The place is clean and comfortable. As others have mentioned it is a bit dated but it is classic Tahoe. Prices have definitely gone up. "
Jan 08, 2023 - patrick p., OAKLAND, CA

"Peaceful stay
Slightly dated furniture and decorations made it feel a little like visitng Grandma, but we had everythign we needed and enjoyed a lovely stay. "

"A great last minute find
After the big snow storm in Dec, the rental we were on our way to, canceled on us. We scrambled to find a new rental and we were able to get this one. The place was a little out dated, but clean. Great location, not to far away from the ski slops. We had a great time and will definitely keep this place in mind the next time we go up. "
Jan 07, 2022 - Greg P., Los Gatos, CA

"Great Location but Dated and Tired
Great location close to Garwoods and the beach. A short drive to the Truckee River and Tahoe City.

The decor and furniture is very dated and the photos and description needs updating as well:
- This is a described as a “3 Bedroom” however, it is a ‘2 Bedroom with a loft’. The loft is open to the common area so if anyone sleeps there, they are last to go to sleep, first to rise
- The photos show a grill and your checkout instructions mention to ‘clean the grill’ when checking out however, when we inquired about propane for the grill we were told by management that grills were not allowed on the property. A bit of a tease to have it there
- For the price and just looking at other comparable properties, additional amenities like Shampoo would be a nice touch.
- the freezer was frozen over with a layer of ice on the bottom and was defrosting/dripping the entire time we were there.
- knives, there was not a sharp knife in the kitchen. They were all dated and looked as if they hadn’t been sharpened in a decade."

Perfect for an active family."

"Great trip and accommodations
The rental was quaint and homie. Plenty of space for a family vacation. Needs some update cookware as teflon was completely stripped from the pans. Hot tub was never available as is small and with children we didn’t want to impose.
Parking was perfect, easy entry, plenty of towels and basic needs."
Feb 25, 2020 - , Citrus Heights, CA

"Needs attention
Carpets need cleaning, non-stick cookware needs replacement, too many stairs, coffee carafe broken, hole in ceiling down stairs bedroom, pool monitor very rude to granddaughter who had a non-breakable water jug at spa which needs to have with her due to a long QT heart condition. Told her she didn't need it as "everyone has a heart condition". "

"Clean Cozy Condo
Nice condo. Plenty of room for our family. Decor and furniture a little aged but still a nice place for a ski weekend with family and friends. Had all the essentials. "

Very quiet, comfortable and away from the heavy traffic of beaches and shops."

"Quiet forest view centrally located in North Lake Tahoe
Quiet, forest view, safe, comfortable and clean. exactly as pictured. Dozen or so step stairs, two bedrooms and bathroom on main floor, living, dining, kitchen and bathroom on second floor. We did not use the loft room. Basic cable TV. Wifi great. We did not use the DVD player. Ceiling fan in living room area was sufficient. Kitchen basic electric, well supplied for use including towel and pot holders, dish and dishwasher soap. We did not use the fireplace nor the BBQ. Cons: bed linens seemed old but clean.(bath towels new-ish) Shower slippery /no hand hold. and some of the furniture was well worn but it did not matter. Great location short car ride to Kings Beach and Tahoe City. Easy walk to mini golf, some restaurants, and pebbly beach. We did not use the pool/hot tub. rec room at the Carnelian Woods main office because we were too busy enjoying the lake. Property manager very responsive. We would like to return again. This was a great retreat! "

"Vacay 2017
Great everything was perfect. the only thing is i would suggest that the property get an adapter for bbq so future guest dont have to bring a full size propane tank with them and can use the smaller size (16 oz) propane tanks "
Aug 19, 2017 - michael b., pacifica, CA

"Carnelian Bay Condo Rental
The refrigerator defrost system caused water to run down on the top food shelf daily, and left a sizable puddle on the floor two of four days. The screen door would not close completely, and banged loudly every time it tried. Several lamps had burned out bulbs or did not work. We left a note with those concerns for the owner via the Recreation Center manager.
Over-all, we were satisfied with the rental although it was smaller than the photos indicated, and some furniture and carpeting showed signs of aging.

"Nice place for the price
The condo was a little dated but clean and in a good location. The staff at the lodge is a little rough and not very helpful. "

"Fun in the Snow
Lots of fun in the snow. The property management team was on top of the snow plowing/blowing. Beautiful setting. Enjoyed the 3 levels of the condo. We'll be back. "

"Perfect for what we needed.
Quick trip to Tahoe for a race. Accommodations were as advertised and good value. "

"Very Run Down Condo
We like Carnelian Woods quite a bit, but this condo needs updating. The picture does not show how dirty and run down it is. The carpet is really dirty and the entire condo feels dirty. the surfaces of the kitchen, the dining table and bathroom did not feel clean when we checked in."
Sep 06, 2016 - , Mountain View, CA

"Nice apt, better with little improvements
We stayed in this apt for a week during summer time. The apt is as shown in the pics, old style but functional. It's not a 3bd but a 2bd plus a loft room, just plan accordingly in case you need 3real bd.
The stove is old and the electric pads don't stay in their space anymore, all the non-stick pans are scratched but there is a good amount of other pots. There is no hairdryer!! The windows shades give you privacy but they don't keep sunlight out of the room in the morning, so the master bedroom and loft-room have plenty of sunlight at 6am.
For 2 days we had workers on our balconies from 8am through the day, when i called the property manager the second day he apologized and told them to finish their work after we were gone. It was definitely not nice to have breakfast with them working outside looking at us!
Overall it was a nice vacation, the apt is conveniently located, most of the best north shore beaches are less than 30min driving away, safeway is 5 min away."
Aug 01, 2016 - , redwood city, california

"NIce Location
It is a very nice condo in a quiet neighborhood. It easily accommodates two families. Nice bathroom and kitchen. Kids had a lot of fun at the pool and rec center. The cleaning crew could have done a better job in cleaning the bathrooms, comforters, and carpet. Wi-Fi worked pretty well in the whole house."
Jul 25, 2016 - Gergana P., Portland, OR

"All was perfect, except too early checkout (10am)
Second time renting in "Carnelian Woods" cabins. All was perfect except too early checkout (10am). "
Mar 21, 2016 - Andrey M., Redwood City, CA

"Nice place, great location
Great place- a little cramped for 5 people in the communal space but plenty of sleeping space. Only complaint was the railing on the upstairs loft- very unsafe! We visited with my toddler and the railing not only had huge gaps between the bars that he could easily fit through but it was VERY wobbly and felt unsafe to lean on."
Feb 28, 2016 - Stacie D., Oakland, ca

"Forest View, December 2015
The location was perfect. We went skiing in Alpine Meadows and Lake Tahoe. We were only in contact with the management company before the stay. It worked well with the lock box. We went to get our parking permit, but no-one was there.
The property is old, and old inside. It needs an upgrade. The A/C was noisy and very old. The kitchen was equipped with old utensils, some of them broken. The dining chairs were in bad condition. "
Jan 21, 2016 - , Clovis, California

"Favorite Spot in Tahoe
This is the third year we've stayed at Carnelian Woods. The location is fabulous- walking distance to Lake, Garwoods, Mini Golf. The unit was perfect for 2 couples and First Accommodation is always extremely friendly and helpful."

"relaxing
The condo was comfortable and clean. The area quiet. Enjoyed the beautiful pool and playground. The hot tub was great the only problem was the hours the hot tub was open. The rec room was well kept, nice pool table. The beach was nice but a little rocky. The old post office was a great place to eat although very busy."
Jun 18, 2015 - , red bluff, California

"Amazing location but Need improvement in Recreation Center.
The most disappointing part is the recreation center is not what we expected it to be. Pool table does not work right the person who was on the duty had to use the pool Stick to bang the part to be able to get the ball out. game room was all dark no games were on at all. The tv wasn't working properly. Was not happy with the Recreation area. But the house we stayed in was great.. The walking path is amazing. The moment we came in the house was clean and warm like a vacation home. I am pleased with the Location we stayed except the recreation center wish they keep it up and make it more entertaining for the customers with children. "
Jun 17, 2015 - Esther B., Sacramento, CA

"Good value condo in Tahoe
A group of 6 of us stayed in this condo in February 2015 to ski at Squaw Valley. The condo was a good size for 6 people. There were two bedroom downstairs, which share a bathroom, the main living area upstairs with a bathroom, and a loft with 3 twin beds. The living area and kitchen were a bit tight, but worked out fine. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed to cook. The beds were moderately comfortable, but not the best I've slept in. The condo was a bit far from Squaw (about 20 minutes driving), but was well located otherwise (near restaurants, supermarket, etc.). Within the condo complex, this unit was a bit far from the recreation center and hot tub though. Additionally, the WiFi was not functional while we were there; they provided us with an alternate network (presumably a neighbor's signal), but the signal wasn't strong enough to reliable connect. Also, cell service was a bit spotty in the unit, so having WiFi would have been nice. The condo also comes with only 2 parking passes, so we had to street park the 3rd car. The place was empty while we were there, and I would have expected them to allow us to park the 3rd car since the parking lot was empty all weekend. Overall, I'd say that there are definitely better options for Tahoe (and Squaw in particular), but for the price, this was a good value."
Feb 10, 2015 - , Pasadena, CA

"Would not stay here again.
The place looks much nicer than it is. There is mildew odor in the place; carpets are worn out and furniture rickety. We were charged for broken items when that did not occur. Furniture was already in poor condition when we came."
Aug 17, 2014 - , Petaluma, CA

"CW with first accommodations
You shouldn't ask guests to clean the fireplace or tell them that it's unacceptable to leave their last load of dishes in the washer. A physical office where guests can get discount lift tickets would also be nice. It also isn't OK to try and sell travel insurance when the seller knows the buyer won't qualify for the coverage. "
Apr 25, 2011 - Ben G., Sacramento, CA

"
Unit was nice, clean. Couldn't get Cell service, and no wi-fi made it a little challenging, esp when the winter storm came through. Property manager was very helpful. Unit was very clean and comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. Could use another TV or two, and decor could use some updating. But, honestly - I'm being picky. We had a very nice stay and it was a nice place for the price."

"Relaxation Spot
I have been coming to this vacation spot for more than 10 yrs now, everytime is better and better. We have tried another spot in the beginning, however, the view and comfort of still feeling at home away from home drew us to Carnelian Woods more and more. Just the thought that not only do we enjoy this place but our kids love this place is more than words can say for us. Every year we look forward to coming here to enjoy and celebrate in the snow. I am always relaxed and this is the best place to do that at. If you want to have a peace of mind, relaxation, or just a cool place to stay, Totally recommend staying at the Carnelian Woods!!"

There were only two things we were not happy about.

1. There was no grill even though it said there would be one.
