Your Atlantic Beach property gives you a front-row seat to a host of charming town events, like the yearly Atlantic Beach Festival at the Circle. The Independence Day fireworks display is a sight you won't want to miss, as the fireworks reflecting off of the waves is considered to be a particularly breathtaking experience.
The area is also packed with historic locations. Nearby Beaufort is the third oldest town in North Carolina, and The Beaufort Historic Site depicts North Carolina in the 1700s and 1800s. Blackbeard was known to have passed through Beaufort Inlet, and you can visit the Hammock House, where it is said that this famous pirate once lived.
Fort Macon State Park, on the Eastern edge of the island, is home to Fort Macon, which was an important site through wars with Spain, France, and Great Britain during the Colonial Period, as well as the Civil War. You can take a guided tour of the fort and see demonstrations of Civil War-era weaponry, like cannons and muskets. The rest of the park contains nature areas and a large beach, so you can enjoy everything from swimming to fishing to taking guided nature hikes.
Bevy of Beaches and Aquatic Fun
Atlantic Beach beach houses are located near several different beaches, like Circle Regional Beach, Tom Doe Memorial Beach, and The Les and Sally Moore Public Beach. Fort Macon State Park also features a beach. These beaches vary in size and amenities, so there is something to suit everyone. Fishing is varied here, too, as you have your choice of deep sea fishing or sound fishing. Anglers can expect to catch grouper, snapper, black bass, triggerfish, king mackerel, amberjack, cobia, dolphin, pacific sailfish, marlin, and roosterfish. You can bring your own gear or rent it from a local shop, and fishing charters are available to show you the best spots to cast your line.
The North Carolina Aquarium is located in Pine Knoll Shores, just west of the Atlantic Beach beach property. Here you can see thousands of aquatic animals and enjoy the Living Shipwreck exhibit with live divers. In addition to a variety of interactive displays and programs, there is an outdoor play area for kids to enjoy. Exhibits change seasonally, so there is always something new to discover. The aquarium is surrounded by the Theodore Roosevelt Natural Area, a 265-acre maritime forest.
